Using Blockchain to Improve Security in Wireless and Ad Hoc Sensor Networks
Mohammadali Haririan , Ali Ezzati
Abstract:   (1 Views)
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) face numerous security challenges due to their distributed nature and limited hardware resources. Blockchain technology, by providing an immutable and distributed ledger, can play an effective role in enhancing the security of these networks. On the other hand, machine learning (ML) algorithms also play a significant role in identifying security threats and anomalies. In this paper, new methods proposed to improve WSN security, including blockchain technology, machine learning, their combination (BC-ML), and smart contracts, are reviewed. First, the architecture and operating principles of each of these methods are analyzed, and then their advantages, disadvantages, and implementation challenges are reviewed. Also, a comparison of these methods is presented based on criteria such as accuracy, computational complexity, and scalability. Finally, future research directions and challenges in developing efficient security solutions for WSNs are reviewed. The results show that the combination of blockchain and machine learning, despite its high potential in increasing the security of these networks, still faces challenges such as computational overhead and data management that require optimization solutions.
